The Gateway programme is adaptable and targets Year 13 students and work-ready Year 12 students.
Students accepted onto the programme must complete a work placement of at least 10 days (usually one day a week for ten weeks).
They must also achieve 20 credits in areas that support their work placement.
At Year 13 there is a Gateway class which runs as a full year option subject. Students in the class can choose to attend the placement for the whole year, a term and use the class time to work towards their 20 Gateway credits and support their other subjects.
At Year 12 we offer placements to selected students. These placements are only offered in industries that teach a programme of 20 credits through the placement, e.g. the Warehouse Red Shirts programme.
Any Gateway learning focuses on industry specific Unit Standards, so that students may take a meaningful pathway toward a career in that area. Our aim is to train and develop the skills and attitudes needed for future employment or training.
Students likely to participate are those interested in a particular career in a specific industry, or those students who wish to collect a wider range of skills than the school can provide.
